There was a very famous player in Japan who could count three hundred moves in his head and think about all kinds of different alternatives that his opponent might come up with. So maybe he makes a different move and you have a totally different situation so the professional has to think ahead for every possibility. They can think ahead two hundred steps. Me, I can think out maybe one hundred steps ahead. And sometimes I would memorize famous players’ games—I would mimic them and learn from them—try to understand why they made certain moves. Some of these games had more than two hundred moves and I had to memorize the whole game.13
